Star Fish Is Not a Real Fish

Human Anatomy
Digestive System

  • The digestive process starts in the mouth. Food is broken down by teeth and the chemical action of salivary enzymes produced by salivary glands. Starches are broken down into very small molecules at this point. After being chewed and swallowed, the food enters the esophagus which is a long tube connecting the mouth and stomach. Rythmic, wave-like musclue movements are used to push food down into the stomach. Once in the stomach the food is churned and bathed in a very strong acid. Food then enters the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.

Making Bread (Tamil Discovery)

Abrakam Lincoln (Tamil Discoverd)

Abraham Lincoln, a self-taught Illinois lawyer and legislator with a reputation as an eloquent opponent of slavery, shocked many when he overcame several more prominent contenders to win the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 1860. His election that November pushed several Southern states to secede by the time of his inauguration in March 1861, and the Civil War began barely a month later. Contrary to expectations, Lincoln proved to be a shrewd military strategist and a savvy leader during what became the costliest conflict ever fought on American soil. His Emancipation Proclamation, issued in 1863, freed all slaves in the rebellious states and paved the way for slavery’s eventual abolition, while his Gettysburg Address later that year stands as one of the most famous and influential pieces of oratory in American history. In April 1865, with the Union on the brink of victory, Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by the Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth; his untimely death made him a martyr to the cause of liberty and Union. Over the years Lincoln’s mythic stature has only grown, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest presidents in the nation’s history..

Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County,Kentucky; his family moved to southern Indiana in 1816. Lincoln’s formal schooling was limited to three brief periods in local schools, as he had to work constantly to support his family. In 1830, his family moved to Macon County in southern Illinois, and Lincoln got a job working on a river flatboat hauling freight down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. After settling in the town of New Salem, Illinois, where he worked as a shopkeeper and a postmaster, Lincoln became involved in local politics as a supporter of the Whig Party, winning election to the Illinois state legislature in 1834. Like his Whig heroes, Henry Clayand Daniel Webster, Lincoln opposed the spread of slavery to the territories, and had a grand vision of the expanding United States, with a focus on commerce and cities rather than agriculture.
Lincoln taught himself law, passing the bar examination in 1836. The following year, he moved to the newly named state capital of Springfield. For the next few years, he worked there as a lawyer, earning a reputation as “Honest Abe” and serving clients ranging from individual residents of small towns to national railroad lines. He met Mary Todd, a well-to-do Kentucky belle with many suitors (including Lincoln’s future political rival, Stephen Douglas), and they married in 1842.
Lincoln won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1846 and began serving his term the following year. As a congressman, Lincoln was unpopular with Illinois voters for his strong stance against the U.S. war with Mexico. Promising not to seek reelection, he returned to Springfield in 1849. Events conspired to push him back into national politics, however: Douglas, a leading Democrat in Congress, had pushed through the passage of the Kansas-NebraskaAct (1854), which declared that the voters of each territory, rather than the federal government, had the right to decide whether the territory should be slave or free. On October 16, 1854, Lincoln went before a large crowd in Peoria to debate the merits of the Kansas-Nebraska Act with Douglas, denouncing slavery and its extension and calling the institution a violation of the most basic tenets of the Declaration of Independence.
With the Whig Party in ruins, Lincoln joined the new Republican Party–formed largely in opposition to slavery’s extension into the territories–in 1858 and ran for the Senate again that year (he had campaigned unsuccessfully for the seat in 1855 as well). In June, Lincoln delivered his now-famous “house divided” speech, in which he quoted from the Gospels to illustrate his belief that “this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free.” Lincoln then squared off against Douglas in a series of famous debates; though he lost the election, Lincoln’s performance made his reputation nationally. His profile rose even higher in early 1860, after he delivered another rousing speech at New York City’s Cooper Union. That May, Republicans chose Lincoln as their candidate for president, passing over Senator William H. Seward of New York and other powerful contenders in favor of the rangy Illinois lawyer with only one undistinguished congressional term under his belt.
In the general election, Lincoln again faced Douglas, who represented the northern Democrats; southern Democrats had nominated John C. Breckenridge of Kentucky, while John Bell ran for the brand new Constitutional Union Party. With Breckenridge and Bell splitting the vote in the South, Lincoln won most of the North and carried the Electoral College. After years of sectional tensions, the election of an antislavery northerner as the 16th president of the United States drove many southerners over the brink, and by the time Lincoln was inaugurated in March 1861 seven southern states had seceded from the Union and formed the Confederate States of America. After Lincoln ordered a fleet of Union ships to supply South Carolina’s Fort Sumter in April, the Confederates fired on both the fort and the Union fleet, beginning the Civil War. Hopes for a quick Union victory were dashed by defeat in the Battle of Bull Run (Manassas), and Lincoln called for 500,000 more troops as both sides settled in for a long conflict.
While the Confederate leader Jefferson Davis was a West Point graduate, Mexican War hero and former secretary of war, Lincoln had only a brief and undistinguished period of service in the Black Hawk War (1832) to his credit. He surprised many by proving to be a more than capable wartime leader, learning quickly about strategy and tactics in the early years of the Civil War, and about choosing the ablest commanders. General George McClellan, though beloved by his troops, continually frustrated Lincoln with his reluctance to advance, and when McClellan failed to pursue Robert E. Lee’s retreating Confederate Army in the aftermath of the Union victory at Antietam in September 1862, Lincoln removed him from command. During the war, Lincoln drew criticism for suspending some civil liberties, including the right of habeas corpus, but he considered such measures necessary to win the war.
Shortly after the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg), Lincoln issued a preliminaryEmancipation Proclamation, which took effect on January 1, 1863, and freed all of the slaves in the rebellious states but left those in the border states (loyal to the Union) in bondage. Though Lincoln once maintained that his “paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery,” he nonetheless came to regard emancipation as one of his greatest achievements, and would argue for the passage of a constitutional amendment outlawing slavery (eventually passed as the 13th Amendment after his death in 1865).
Two important Union victories in July 1863–at Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania–finally turned the tide of the war. General George Meade missed the opportunity to deliver a final blow against Lee’s army at Gettysburg, and Lincoln would turn by early 1864 to the victor at Vicksburg,Ulysses S. Grant, as supreme commander of the Union forces. In November 1863, Lincoln delivered a brief speech (just 272 words) at the dedication ceremony for the new national cemetery at Gettysburg. Published widely, the Gettysburg Address eloquently expressed the war’s purpose, harking back to the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence and the pursuit of human equality. It became the most famous speech of Lincoln’s presidency, and one of the most widely quoted speeches in history.
In 1864, Lincoln faced a tough reelection battle against the Democratic nominee, the former Union General George McClellan, but Union victories in battle (especially William T. Sherman’s capture of Atlanta in September) swung many votes the president’s way. In his second inaugural address, delivered on March 4, 1865, Lincoln addressed the need to reconstruct the South and rebuild the Union: “With malice toward none; with charity for all.”
As Sherman marched triumphantly northward through the Carolinas, Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9. Union victory was near, and Lincoln gave a speech on the White House lawn on April 11, urging his audience to welcome the southern states back into the fold. Tragically, Lincoln would not live to help carry out his vision of Reconstruction. On the night of April 14, the actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth slipped into the president’s box at Ford’s Theatre in Washington and shot him point-blank in the back of the head. Lincoln was carried to a boardinghouse across the street from the theater, but he never regained consciousness, and died in the early morning hours of April 15.

Attakasam (Ajith)

Movie:
Attakasam
Director:
Saran
Cast:
Ajit, Pooja, Babu Antony, Sujatha, Haneefa
Cinematographer:
A.Venkatesh
Music:
Bharadwaj
Producer:
Karthikeyan .P

If laughter is the best medicine, then Saran earned his stripes, though at times the comedy is crass with plenty of lewd jokes. Ajit looks sensational as usual and is an absolute delight and is clearly at home playing another double role (the third time). But Attakasam is totally devoid of any originality and director Saran has borrowed liberally from half a dozen films. He has tried to remix that MGR classic Kudiyiruntha Kovil and Ajit’s mannerisms remind you of his role in Villain.
The story is about identical twin brothers – Jeeva (Ajit) a happy-go-lucky driving instructor in Chennai who runs his own driving school and lives with his mother (Sujatha). His sidekicks are Punk (Karnas), an auto driver and Vayyapuri. His twin brother Guru (Ajit) is a rising don in Tuticorin and his best friend is Sulla (Ramesh Kanna). Guru is an angry young man who is seeking vengeance on his mother who had given him in adoption when he was a child. In fact Guru had run away from his foster parents to Tuticorin and become a ‘dada’!

Guru has a dark secret, as he was a witness to his father’s (Nizhalgal Ravi) murder by Mantram (Babu Antony) an underworld don and a real estate shark. Mantram is in search of Guru and has promised the mother that he will not harm Jeeva but due to a crazy mix-up Jeeva lands up in Tutocorin where everybody mistakes him for Guru and later creates tension between the don and his enemies like Samudrakani (‘Pitamagan’ Mahadevan) and Jasper. Finding this as an opportunity to settle scores with his mother, Guru impersonates his twin brother and how all this is sorted out in the end forms the rest of this yarn.

Ajit’s proficient ability to play double roles and the characters wit and one-liners are the saving grace of the film. Pooja is wasted as Swapna, Jeeva’s lover in an insignificant and half-baked role. In fact the lovers fall in love when their dogs are brought together to mate! There is coarse humour as the male dog gulps down Viagra accidentally!! There are plenty of double meaning dialogues which may raise a few laughs among the low-class audience.

The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair is missing and was there any need to picturise the songs in Romania? Bharadwaj songs are nothing much to write about though Unakkenna…Unakkenna…, is the pick of the lot. The driving school sets are tacky and technically the film is shoddy.

The director and script-writer Saran has no original story to say and just lets his maddeningly zany characters indulge in buffoonery in the name of entertainment

Thirumalai -(Vijay)

Yet another poor-boy rich-girl romance with parental opposition and mafia interference. Vijay plays Thirumalai who runs a two-wheeler mechanic shop. He has this chance encounter with Shweta on New Year's Day, and she wishes him success in all his future endeavours. Thirumalai, finding positive things happening in his life, attributes it to her wishes and falls for her.

He relentlessly woos her and she finally reciprocates. Her furious father - who owns half-a-dozen TV channels or so - hires the services of Arasu, the local don, with whom he was having a running feud, to put Thirumalai in his place.

The main flaw is in the scripting where the debutant director tries to depict a love story on the one side, and the politician-cop-media-underworld nexus on the other. While the hero gets involved with the first, he's not bothered about the second, till his love life is threatened.

The script is not focussed. The thrilling opening scene of a videographer taking compromising shots of a murder, running for his life and is fortuitously saved by the hero; followed by the repetition of a similar scene later is a wasted effort. For, the director makes no use of it to develop the plot. Scenes like Shweta's father's sudden volte face when he approaches Arasu, with whom he was at loggerheads, to thwart the romance is not convincing either.

Again, scenes like Thirumalai walking into a meditation hall to express his love for Shweta, and then making a mockery of the spiritual guru, the people and the place, is in bad taste, considering that the guru was depicted as a saintly, sober figure.

Recent films of Vijay had the hero indulging in violence for most part of the film, and suddenly espousing the cause of non-violence in the closing scene! Puthiya Geethai had Vijay giving a long sermon to hardened criminal Thilakan that makes him give up violence, one suspects, in sheer exhaustion on hearing the hero's long monologue. Here too, the hero's long lecture on humanity and non-violence makes the cold-blooded killer Arasu throw away his arms, probably out of sheer frustration of having to hear the hero's long lecture! Arasu pays for it when his henchmen, and partner, not quite convinced by the hero's lecture, try to lynch Arasu!

Manoj K. Jayan as Arasu makes the most of his role, except in the scene where he plays the reformed man. Kausalya and Raghuvaran as Vijay's neighbours bring some sobriety to the proceedings. Vivek's comedy is a total waste and so is the sizzling 'item' number by Kiran.

There's nothing fresh here that we haven't seen in an earlier Vijay film. The Vijay-Jyotika pair, after their successful combination in Khushi, was expected to re-create the same magic on screen. But it doesn't happen.

After tasting massive Diwali success in 2012, Vijay and A.R.Murugadoss are back with their second outing together, Kaththi. The film features Vijay in two contrasting but physically 'identical' dual roles, Kathiresan and Jeevanantham. While Kathir is a crook who is on the run and one with 24 previous visits to the jail, Jeevanantham is a sober, educated activist who strives for the betterment of his impoverished village where water is a big concern. Their paths cross very early in the movie and the film is set in motion.
Vijay has used this opportunity to play diverse roles in the same movie and proves his experience as a performer and as an entertainer. While Kathir is high on theatrics and is the Vijay that we have enjoyed on screen in many mass entertainers, Jeeva is fresh and non-Vijay in every aspect. Kathir is bound to be a fan favorite while the audiences are likely to empathize with Jeeva and his motives. In that aspect, Kaththi is a strong movie for the actor Vijay.
Coming to director A.R.Murugadoss, he has touched upon many issues close to his heart such as rampant corruption, farmer suicides, the plight of senior citizens, water scarcity, the workings of the sensational news-hungry media and also goes on to vilify the corporates and their aggressive expansion plans without considering their CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives. The one scene late in the second half, when Vijay delivers an intense monologue on the above mentioned issues, is a definite highlight in the overall scheme of things. But it does try to get a little manipulative as the director has played to the gallery to win the audience's sympathy towards farmers and make us root for his protagonist.
One feels Murugadoss could have gone a step forward and tightened the screenplay. The placement of all the songs leaves a lot to be desired, specially the much talked about 'Selfie Pulla'. 'Aathi' is delightfully shot whereas 'Pakkam Vandu', though a different exercise doesn't make an impact. But the dancer Vijay sparkles effortlessly in all these songs. Kaththi doesn't engage consistently as some sizzling moments are interspersed with moments of restlessness. The length of the movie is another drawback. The Thuppakki hangover continues in Kaththi to an extent. If Thuppakki was an ode to the Army, Kaththi is dedicated to the farmers of the land.
Anirudh as usual adds lot of strength through his BGM score. If you hear the theatre roar for some of the strong scenes, the major part of the credit should go to him. The other youngster on board, DoP George C Williams makes a smooth transition to the big commercial space with some solid work on the visuals, the lighting patterns and the angles.
Among the other performers, Neil Nitin Mukesh is a new addition to the list of suave, stylish villains. His voice and the dubbing elevate his overall performance. Samantha is sadly what you may call the 'typical commercial cinema heroine' who appears in the songs, few romantic scenes and stands in the background while the hero takes charge.
All the actors who play the pivotal senior citizens are convincing. Sathish as Vijay's buddy makes a mark as well. Speaking of Anal Arasu's stunt choreography, it should be a delight for Vijay's fans and the star's celebrated screen presence and agility come to the fore in these extended treats.
To sum up, Kaththi is a grand production which rides on Vijay's dual roles, the social interest angle and some impactful scenes which are part of the mix.
Verdict: Murugadoss delivers a strong commercial movie with a nice social angle, in true Vijay style !

Vel (surya)

Movie:  Vel

Director:
Hari
Cast:
Surya, Asin, Vadivelu, Lakshmi
Music:
Yuvan Shankar Raja
Producer:
Mogan Natarajan
Avg user rating:

If you thought you’d seen the last of Hari’s Aruvaal films set in southern Tamilnadu, you’re wrong. There is still a lot more to be seen. His latest Vel has Surya playing a double role so that the director can have a city background along with his favourite milieu.
There is no original bone in the film, as it is a rehash of Hari’s last releaseTamarabharani, an earlier film Ayya mixed with large doses of Telugu Murari, which established Mahesh Babu as a superstar. It has a feel and look of the 70’s and 80’s popular film fantasy of twins separated at birth, reuniting after 27 years to take on the villain!
Hari has mixed the lost and found theme with large dosages of action, crass comedy, a love story, large family controlled by an old lady, a comic villain who is hell bent on vengeance, along with the set props- old feudal landlord’s bungalow (seen in all Hari movies), petrol bunk, paddy fields, police station, lorry laden with food grain, old style ambassador cars, white Sumos, characters wearing RMKV dhoties and starched white shirt, heroine in half sari etc, etc.
The story- Charanraj and Saranya who have twins lose one of them while traveling between Tirunelveli and Chennai. The child stolen by a beggar for its gold chain is abandoned at the door of a rich feudal landlord. He is brought up in the family as Vel (Surya) and becomes the darling of everybody including Amudda (Lakshmi), the family head. Meanwhile the other twin grows up and becomes a private detective Vasu (Surya), who falls in love with a television hostess ‘7 Up’ Swati (Asin). At the same time Vel is given a tough time by Sankarapandi (Kalabhavan Mani), a former minister and local strongman who has his own axe to grind. The twins meet, swap their roles and unite to fight the villain, forms the rest of this predictable yarn.
Surya in a dual role as an angry young man and a cool dude with a comic sense has pitched in with yet another fantastic performance. It is the cool dude sort of role which suits him more than being an action hero fighting a dozen guys at the same time! Asin looks pretty and does what she is expected with grace. Kalabhavan Mani is the typical villain you have seen in many similar films with his trade mark grunting and loud act. Vadivel is enjoyable in his crass buffoonery act, especially the ‘tea kada’ episode. The biggest letdown is Yuvan’s music, which to put it mildly is bad. There is not even one hummable number or a catch song in the film. The Switzerland dream song has a Suttrum Vizhi… from Ghajani hangover!
All said and seen, it is the brisk pace of the film which makes it a racy entertainer. Hari does not like his audiences to think, he wants to give them an entertainment feast, which he has succeeded to a large extent. The film will appeal to a broad spectrum of audiences and work big time in B & C centers, making it profitable for producer Mogan Natarajan. And as far as Hari is concerned he is a safe bet for any producer, he has already started work on his next film set once again in Tirunelveli!

Pannaiyarum Padminiyum

Director Arun Kumar’s Tamil film Pannaiyarum Padminiyum is a realistic story about the lives of ordinary people and their simple desires, says S Saraswathi.

Owning a Premier Padmini was once considered a matter of prestige.

Even today, despite the many high-tech models flooding the market, there are some who still treasure the sturdy car that once dominated the Indian roads. Pannaiyarum Padminiyum is the story of one such individual.

The film is directed by Arun Kumar of Naalaya Iyakunar fame, who had previously directed a short film with the same concept and title. The film became quite popular, encouraging the director to turn it into a full length feature film.

The film revolves around Jayaprakash, a pannaiyar (landlord), who is smitten by a vintage Premier Padmini.

The hugely talented Vijay Sethupathi plays the car’s driver, Murugesan. Iyshwarya Rajesh, who was recently seen opposite Vijay Sethupathi inRummy, has once again been paired opposite him.

The others in the cast are Thulasi, Neelima Rani and Balasaravanan, who played Vijay Sethupathi’s role in the original short film.

Sneha and Attakathi Dinesh make brief cameo appearances in the film.

The film is set in a remote village in Tamil Nadu that has only one bus service. The Premier Padmini that has been left in the care of the Pannaiyar by a relative who is visiting his pregnant daughter is a huge attraction to the villagers.

The old Pannaiyar is absolutely devoted to the car. Murugesan drives him around and the car is pretty much used to help everyone in the village. The Pannaiyar’s wife, Chellamma (Thulasi) is the only one who refuses to get into the car. She insists that she will travel in the car only if her husband drives it.

The Pannaiyar decides to learn driving from Murugesan and surprise his wife on their wedding anniversary. He plans to drive her himself to the temple.

But the task is not so simple. Murugesan too is besotted by the car and is afraid that if he teaches the Pannaiyar how to drive, he himself will not be able to drive the car.

Besides, there is the constant dread of the relative who owns the car coming back for it. And lastly, there is the Panniyar’s selfish and greedy married daughter, Neelima Rani, who believes it is her God-given right to carry away everything belonging to her parents.

How the Panniyar fulfills his wife’s desire, despite all the problems forms the rest of the story.

Vijay Sethupathi totally blends in as the driver -- the body language, the simple lungi, and the towel around his neck, everything is understated, yet makes an impact.

Vijay Sethpathi, yet again, proves why he was number one last year. Both Jayaprakash and Thulasi have given brilliant performances. Balasaravanan, as Vijay Sethupathi’s sidekick, is hilarious, evoking spontaneous laughter with his every action and dialogue.

Iyshwarya, however, has been sidelined, as the more mature love story between Jayaprakash and Thulasi is given prominence. The gentle teasing and the easy relationship shared by the couple who have been together for many years makes a refreshing change from the regular love stories of today.

The film has absolutely no violence.

The music by Justin Prabhakaran is pleasant and in keeping with the mood of the film.
